Self-Publishing Day 2018

20th January 2018 | 9:30am to 6:00pm | Regent's College, London.

Tickets: £125

Our self-publishing intensive one day course will teach you how to launch your career as an indie author.

This short, intensive course in self-publishing will look at every aspect of structuring your ebook, building your Amazon page, finding your very first audience, then using that audience to build an ever-larger circle of readers. We'll also look at ad strategies, sales copy, cover design, and much else. The aim, quite simply is to give you all the tools you need to launch and develop your career, fast, efficiently, and with maximum success.

Your tutors for the day

David Gaughran
, author of Let's Get Digital and Let's Get Visible, and one of the two or three best known self-publishing advocates in Europe.

Tim O'Rourke,
author of numerous titles, including the Kiera Hudson and Beautiful Immortals series, among others. Tim has had multiple #1 bestsellers in his categories and has sold more than a million copies of his books to date.

Harry Bingham
is founder of The Writers' Workshop and an indie author in North America, where he generates a six-figure income from just six titles, with very little marketing investment, either of money or time.

Alex Walker studied illustration at Plymouth University. His love of design and books steered him towards the publishing industry, where, one MA in Publishing later, he secured a job working as a book cover designer for Oxford University Press. Alongside this, Alex works as a freelance designer for hire on a variety of independent projects.

What you will learn

You will:

  • Learn the basic sales roadmap, from Amazon page, to ebook, to email capture. You will also learn how to deploy that roadmap no matter where you in your career you stand, whether you are a complete newbie, or an experienced self-publisher looking to perfect your techniques.
  • Understand how to put together an ebook, and what every part of the book needs to deliver in terms of customer experience.
  • Understand your Amazon page. You will learn what the key conversion factors are and how to optimise your work for maximum sales.
  • Learn how to write superb sales copy, that will move browsers from curiosity through to purchase.
  • Learn how to develop a highly saleable cover, including how to develop a design brief and locate a designer.
  • Learn exactly how to capture reader emails, and why it's crucially important to do so. A highly optimised, but totally non-spammy approach to email list building is the single most important tool for almost any indie author.
  • Learn cutting edge marketing and ad techniques from one of the masters of the field.
  • Explore whether it makes sense to offer your books exclusively with Amazon, or whether to sell on the other book stores as well.

If you already have books up for sale on Amazon, and if you're feeling bold, we may also perform a live audit of your sales pathway - analysing in detail exactly where your sales process is and isn't working. This exercise is an unbelievably good way of helping you understand how to create sales pathway that really delivers. (Note: participation in the live audit is voluntary, and we may not have time to audit the sales processes of everyone who volunteers.)

Bonuses, Bonuses

What? You think that learning how to create a sustainable career as an indie author isn't enough for one day? Oh, okay then. Our £125 ticket price includes:

  • One month's FREE access to a complete self-publishing video course. This course explores the basic indie publishing road map in step-by-step detail, and includes detailed PDFs of all material covered.
  • One month's FREE access to a ton of other learning material too. Further details will be provided on the day.
  • A lunch voucher, redeemable at the Regent's College canteen
  • All teas, coffees and wine.

Do remember that spaces are limited. Once we hit our room limit, we can't sell any more tickets, no matter how sweetly you ask.

Who this day is for

This day will suit you if you:

  • are new to self-publishing, and want to learn best-practice indie techniques for 2018
  • have already released books on KDP, but want to improve your sales success
  • are a traditionally published author with unsold rights. (For example, you might have published your work with a traditional publisher in the UK, but have unsold backlist in the US market - that's money just waiting to be made.)

But really, if you're even half-curious about indie publishing this day is for you. We are passionate about self-publishing's potential for a huge number of writers and we really want to bring you the tools and knowledge you need to get started. Self-publishing always sounds daunting from the outside ... but the essence of it is really simple and does not require you to be pushy, crass or have huge marketing budgets.

Good to know

We're going to be filming the entire day, because we want to make this material available to as many people as possible. The cameras will be 99% focused on our speakers, but there may be occasional shots which include audience members.

If you do not wish to appear on camera, please let our team know on the day and we will make sure that you are not filmed, even briefly. If you have any questions, please just ask.

It's very important to us that we respect your privacy and any concerns you may have.
