THE WW PUBLISHING CONSULTATION

_________________________________________________________________

Self-publishing
looks great ... but there are hundreds of options and there can be far too many hidden catches. What's right for you and your book?

Commercial publishing offers the lure of someone actually paying for your manuscript - but how many people actually get taken on? And what are the next steps?

If you want these and any other questions answered, then we're here to help.

Our Publishing Consultation gives you cheap, expert, honest & totally impartial advice. The Writers' Workshop is run by writers for writers, so we are here for you and only for you.

Sounds good? Then read on...

How much does the WW Publishing Consultation cost?

It costs £20 (£23.50 including VAT)

What do I get for the money?

We will:-

  • look at your manuscript. That doesn't mean we'll read every word, but it does mean we'll familiarise ourselves with it, to understand genre / style / subject matter / approximate quality / potential interest to publishers / etc
  • carefully consider the info you send through to us about your hopes / desires / worries / etc about your manuscript (more on this below)
  • arrange for a 30 minute telephone consultation with you. That consultation is your time to use as you like, but we would normally expect to cover (a) how the industry works, (b) how we think the industry would assess your work, (c) whether commercial publishing might prove realistic for you - and if so, what your next steps would be, (d) whether self-publishing made sense for you, and what you should realistically expect from the process.
  • If we jointly decide that self-pub is the right course of action for you, then we would be able to recommend firms in whom we trust. We do not receive any financial benefit from these referrals: our advice is totally independent.
  • If you happen to decide that any of the WW's other manuscript-related services (editorial advice, copyediting, etc) are right for you, then we will give you £30 off those services when you come to pay for them. In effect, you'll be getting the upfront consultation for free. We will never pressure you into choosing any of our services. We're much too nice for that!

I'm interested. What do I need to do next?

You need to do as follows:

  • Send us your manuscript.

-  send it by email attachment to info@writersworkshop.co.uk

-  Send the whole MS in one file, not 100s of separate files, please!

-  .doc or .pdf files are the most reliable. Use these if you can.

-  Mark the subject line of your email, "Publishing consultation"

  • When you send the email, please give us some detailed background about you, your writing, why you wrote this manuscript, and what you would like to see as the end product. You should tell us, for example, whether your aim is to make money? or just see something in print? or to get noticed? or to get your story out there to help others? Tell us about any financial constraints on self-publication options. Explain what you would consider to be a good (but realistic) outcome of publication. The more you tell us, the better our advice will be!
  • We guarantee that your MS will be kept confidential and examined only for the purposes mentioned here.
  • Please make sure you send us your contact info, including email & phone number.
  • We will review the material you've sent through, then we'll be in touch to arrange a consultation. We try to do this as soon as possible after you've got in touch. Apart from holiday periods, we aim to get back to you within 5 working days of you sending the material through.

  • When we start the consultation we'll take your visa / mastercard details and process your card payment at the end of the call. We prefer debit cards to credit cards, but can take any card with the visa / mastercard logo.
